From A Mother’s Heart

Dear Lord,

Thank you for the gift of my precious children, heart of my own heart, gift from heaven above. Until they were born, I did not realize how deep, fierce and untameable a mother’s love could be. But even this unexplainable force of love is not mine to own. It is from You, the source of all love. Help me place these children and this mother’s love before Your Throne, for you are Almighty God, Holy One, King, Lord, Creator, Master, Savior, Redeemer, Deliverer, Provider, Sustainer, Father, Jesus, Spirit, Shepherd, Lamb and Lover of our souls. Only You can be on the throne of my heart. Heavenly Father, help me to reflect the love of Jesus over them, so they see the love in my face, but also see through me to gaze upon the face of Jesus who loves them so much he died for their sins, to rescue them from hell and win them to You. Eternal Father, fill in all the gaps for my children where I have failed or was never meant to fill from the beginning. Be the truest Heavenly Parent that only you can be to my children, both now and for all eternity. Help me use the small gifts I have been given to lead them to You, for only You will never leave or forsake them. Let me rest my mother’s heart in You, for You are my Father, too.

I love You, Abba Father. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.

  1. Your words, my heart, saturated with love from my Father, hope in my Savior, faith in the word of God and prayer for my children to glorify God through their own true relationship with him.
    Thank you……(sigh)

  4. “Eternal Father, fill in all the gaps for my children where I have failed or was never meant to fill from the beginning”…whew that sentence can sure take a load of pressure off a mama’s back! I absolutely love it. And so true. We as moms often forget that some of the job is God’s job, not ours. Thank you for this. Thank you for following my blog and I look forward to reading more of yours.

  5. Dear Amy, thank you for visiting my blog. It has been a slow process learning to let God be God over my mom role. You are right, as we release more to him, the weight is lifted. I can’t be all things to my kids, but pray I can point them to the One who is. I was so blessed by your writing and I am definitely looking forward to reading more of your posts. Blessings!

  6. Amen, Melissa. I second that wholeheartedly. It’s easy as a dad to lose sight of my own need for God to love me as his child. I’m trying to dive into God’s love more this year.

  7. I loved this, Melissa! I’m blessed by you! Wow-sa! What a beautiful and powerful prayer for us to pray over our children. I bookmarked it so I can pray if from time to time. While I love it all, line by line, this is really insightful, “Eternal Father, fill in all the gaps for my children where I have failed or was never meant to fill from the beginning.”

    • Dear Karen, thank you for joining me in prayer for our children. As I have grown older, I see many ways I could have done more or done better as a mom, which is why I must remember I am only human and can never be all things to my kids. Additionally, I have to remember that some things were never meant to be accomplished through me, but only through the hand of God. This helps me keep a right and humble perspective of myself and right and powerful perspective of our God. I am humbled that you are bookmarking the prayer. May God continue stirring our hearts to pray fervently for our children and families! God bless you, Karen!

    • Praying for our kids is the most powerful thing we can do as parents. Sometimes I forget that and I feel that I should somehow be all things to them, instead of pointing them to the only One who can do all things. I am learning ever so slowly. God bless you and your family!
