How do you thank someone who held you, nursed you, and cared for you when you could not care for yourself?
How do you thank a mother?
No mother is ever perfect, of course. But a godly mother’s love is strong, self-sacrificing, and desires the best for us- God’s best.
Perhaps you were raised and loved by a biological mother, adoptive mother, stepmother, or foster mother. Maybe you experienced love through a grandmother, aunt, friend, or spiritual mother. No matter the form of mother God placed in our lives, we thank God for these special mothers and for the gift of a mother’s love.
We remember
Every reminder to
How do you thank a mother?
Give her a blessing. A blessing of your time and a blessing of your prayers. This is a gift that lasts for all eternity.
Below are 10 Scripture blessings to pray over your mother or mother figures in your life. If your mother is no longer living, consider other women you could bless with these Scripture prayers. If you are a husband, pray these over your wife. If you are a mother, you can pray these blessings over yourself!
I encourage you to read slowly, pause in stillness and pray each blessing over your mom and other women who have blessed your life with God’s love.
1. The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace. Numbers 6:24-26 (ESV)
2. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places. Ephesians 1:3 (ESV)
3. Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her. Proverbs 31:28 (ESV)
4. Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Proverbs 31:30 (ESV)
5. As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you; and you will be comforted over Jerusalem. Isaiah 66:13 (NIV)
6. Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you. Behold, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are continually before me. Isaiah 49:15-16 (ESV)
7. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. Proverbs 31:26 (ESV)
8. Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither whatever they do prospers. Psalm 1:1-3 (NIV)
9. Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. Philippians 1:2-6 (NIV)
10. For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16 (NIV)
May God bless you and your family with the love of Christ, poured out for all who will receive Him.
