How God Blesses us with Dew

A Morning View

The scene took my breath away.

I slipped downstairs to turn on the coffee and begin my day with quiet prayer. In early mornings my eyes are drawn to the windows for a quick peek outdoors. God’s amazing artistry always brightens my outlook. I anticipate the wonders He creates with each day’s blank canvas.

Today’s divine artwork delighted my eyes. Dewdrops sparkled like diamonds strewn across the grass. Sunlight beamed through tree branches spotlighting a blanket of glittering green grass. A bunny stretched up to sip from low-hanging twigs on a bush. Squirrels scampered like playful children at recess. Even the spider’s web glistened like a candlelit chandelier.

Anchoring this wondrous view was the dew.

Shining drops adorned each blade of grass. A gift from heaven. A sip of life-giving water. A sphere of heaven’s refreshment. I wondered at God’s magnificent design with beauty in every detail.

As I pondered this miraculous display, Scriptures about dew came to mind.

God’s blessing of Dew

In Psalm 133 David described harmony among God’s people like the blessing of dew on the mountains. – Like the dew of Hermon, Descending upon the mountains of Zion; For there the Lord commanded the blessing— Life forevermore.

Later that week in my daily Bible reading, I was reminded that manna sent from heaven arrived each morning like dew. (Exodus 16:13-15) Sometimes we take for granted the provisions God showers upon us daily.

Dew is formed overnight as moist, warm air moves over cooler surfaces like grass, leaves, or cars. This results in condensation appearing as droplets or a mist covering the ground, plants, and other surfaces. Dew usually forms on clear nights when the air is calm. Like rain, dew provides moisture for animals, plants, and crops. Dew is especially helpful in arid climates like that of ancient Israel.

God made the dew as part of His intricately designed creation. Dew is one way He causes the plants to grow. Since dew can refresh and revitalize the earthly realm, it seems fitting dew symbolizes God’s blessings, bounty, and renewal in the spiritual realm.

The blessing of dew in Scripture

This passage from Hosea 14 captures God’s merciful heart. God calls His people to return to Him. The Lord’s forgiveness and love blanket them like the dew.

Return, Israel, to the Lord your God.
Your sins have been your downfall!

“I will heal their waywardness
and love them freely,
for my anger has turned away from them.
I will be like the dew to Israel;
he will blossom like a lily.
Like a cedar of Lebanon
he will send down his roots;
his young shoots will grow.
His splendor will be like an olive tree,
his fragrance like a cedar of Lebanon. ~Hosea 14:1,4-6 (NIV)

Like God’s people long ago, we are enclosed in His mercy and love. From this place of soul nourishment, we can burst forth into new life.

As we renew our minds daily in God’s Word, may we receive His heavenly refreshment within.

Let my teaching fall like rain
and my words descend like dew,
like showers on new grass,
like abundant rain on tender plants. ~Deuteronomy 32:2 (NIV)

God’s love like dew

When have you experienced a dewy morning? Do you have a favorite Scripture that contains dew?

I pray you will sense God’s revitalizing love for you today like dawn’s fresh dew.

  4. I absolutely love this! And like you, I love the morning dew. There’s something truly magical about the specks of light that dance upon the water. It reminds me of how God reinvigorates and renews our souls as we cling to him and repent, as we become new creations in Christ. As you say, “We are enclosed in His mercy and love. From this place of soul nourishment, we can burst forth into new life.” Amen!
