By Melissa McLaughlin

Darkness looms.

Heavy.

Still.

Shadowed.

Whispered deceptions.

Seething accusations.

Cloaked lies swirling.

“You are not loved.

No one really cares.

You are called by

your failures, mistakes, sins.”

Hope fading

Despair eclipses.

Encased now in shame’s blanket

Darkness envelopes.

A crack in the door of your heart.

A golden shaft pierces through.

Small, unnoticed at first.

Glowing. Shining.

Radiating.

Grace revealed.

Forgotten truth unveiled.

The Light of the World has come.

One flash of His Word and darkness flees.

Lies are silenced. His voice reverberates.

You are…

known by His blood pouring down

cared for with nail-scarred hands

loved with an everlasting love.

Light dispels darkness.

Always has.

Always will.

This is your new name.

Child of God.

Bearer of Christ’s light.

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. ~1 Peter 2:9
