The Gospel – Easter Story with Candy

By Melissa McLaughlin

The Sweetest Story Ever Told

Are you looking for a fun way to retell the sweetest story ever told?

The Gospel.

The Good news.

The Easter story.

We want everyone to hear the story of Christ’s rescue mission to save us through His life, death, and resurrection!

But maybe you’d like to tell it in a fresh way that engages the whole family.

The Idea

One year my mom and I attended a women’s Christmas program where participants retold the Christmas story with Bible verses attached to candies. Sparkles and smiles lit each face as we experienced the Christmas story in a unique way. It was such a hit that we shared it at our family gathering. Laughter and joy filled our home as we recounted the Christmas story using Bible verses and candy.

That was Christmas, what about the Gospel or Easter?

Telling the Gospel / Easter Story with Candy

With Resurrection Sunday, or Easter, quickly approaching, I searched for similar Bible-based, candy versions of the Gospel or Easter story to try with my family this year. I could not find exactly what I was looking for.

So, I combined my own ideas along with ideas from other renditions to create this Gospel / Easter Story using Bible verses and candy. Can you tell I am a retired elementary school teacher?

Please feel free to print out my version or tweak it with different foods or candies to suit your tastes.

7.Enjoy the candies in the end!

*Small children who cannot read, can be the ones to pass out the bags as the numbers are called and hold up the candies while an adult reads the slip of paper.

The Gospel / Easter Story with Candy

Jesus’ Resurrection is the Sweetest Story Ever Told!

1.Our hearts were dark with sin. (Candy: Dove Dark Chocolates)

The Bible says: All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23

2.To sin against the God of life brings death. (Candy: Payday Bar)

The Bible says: For the wages of sin is death. Romans 6:23a

3.God is holy and cannot allow evil and sin in heaven. But He loved us so much, He sent Jesus to save us. (Candy: LifeSavers)

The Bible says: The gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 6:23b

4.So, Jesus took my place, died on the cross, and paid the penalty for my sins. My sin-debt has been cleared. In the courtrooms of heaven, I owe Zero! (Candy: Zero Bar)

The Bible says: For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. 2 Corinthians 5:19

The Bible says: God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. Ephesians 2:8-9

5.Jesus died for everyone. He died for Mike and Ike. He died for you and me. (Candy: Mike and Ike)

The Bible says: For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that WHOEVER believes in Him, shall not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16

6.But that’s not all! Jesus died, was buried, and THEN He rose up from the grave! He is victorious over sin, death, hell, and Satan! Jesus is LORD of all! He is risen! (Candy: Riesen chocolate caramels.)

The Bible says: After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb.

There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men.

The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.” Matthew 28:1-7

7.To receive the free gift of salvation, there is only one condition. We must be Smarties. We must believe in Jesus as Savior and Lord. (Candy: Smarties)

The Bible says: If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9

8.When we believe that Jesus died and rose again, He forgives us, washes us clean, fills us with His Spirit to make our hearts good like His, and gives us plenty of blessings in heaven. (Candy: Good and Plenty)

In the Bible Jesus said: Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; so that where I am, there you may be also. You know the way to the place I am going.”Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we don’t know where You are going, so how can we know the way?”Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” John 14:1-6

9.Because of Jesus, we have joy for today and hope for all eternity! (Candy: Almond Joy, Kinder Joy)

The Bible says:But I trust in your unfailing love;
my heart rejoices in your salvation.
I will sing the Lord’s praise,
for he has been good to me.
Psalm 13:5-6

The Bible says this about heaven: Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the old heaven and the old earth had disappeared. And the sea was also gone. And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven like a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, “Look, God’s home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them. He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.”And the One sitting on the throne said, “Look, I am making everything new!”Revelation 21:1-5

10.If we believe in Him, Jesus saves us from sin, and He will take us beyond the Milky Way into heaven, to be with Him forever! (Candy: Milky Way)

The Bible says: Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. And when Christ, who is your life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory. Colossian 3:1-4The Bible says:You make known to me the path of life;
in your presence there is fullness of joy;
at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
Psalm 16:11
