Poem: Blooming and Releasing

By Melissa McLaughlin

Blooming and Releasing

My soul revives in spring glory.

Earthy scents of wet soil

Touch my nose in the puffy wind.

Driving on highways

Once barren and dark

The world heard God’s call,

“Out with the old,

In with the new.”

Buds, blooms, and blossoms awaken

In rarest hues reserved for spring,

Stretching out like colorful threads

Strewn across the horizon

Weaving a spirited tapestry.

My eyes wide open

I don’t want to miss even one daffodil

Dancing in the sunlight.

I hold each velvety petal

In my mind’s memory box

Like a priceless treasure.

Pinks, purples, yellows, whites, green-golds,

Stems and branches arrayed in majesty

Ablaze in dawn’s brilliance.

Unmatched

Living artistry

Exquisite design

Delicate tender frail

Here today and gone tomorrow.

Blooming and Releasing

Who could put so much heart

Into something that shines but a week?

The God of eternity,

He is the One

Who sees and gives and loves like that.

The flower quickly fading

Whispers that our lives are passing.

Can we listen to the wisdom

God wrote into His world

And still enjoy this moment?

Rhythms set to His times

His gentle-strong hands

Moving through the ages

Shaping life’s seasons.

Creator

Painter

Provider

Sustainer

Redeemer

Blooming and Releasing

I lift my head like the early spring shoot

To the One who gives me life,

Redeems my life,

And numbers my days.

His true love warms and nourishes.

Father, help me shine while I have time.

~The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever. Isaiah 40:8

  1. Hi Melissa

Great is He the One who knit us in our mother’s womb and the One who provides us everything we need in life – food, shelter, beautiful fellow creatures, nature all all????????. Appreciate your poem ❤️

  2. Spring is my favorite season also! I love seeing the new life blossoming. But your words that reminded us of Jesus’ Words about the lilies and how quickly they fade, touched me deeply today. Truly our times are in His hands for His beauty to be shared. Thank you for sharing that beauty with us .

    • I love your Scripture connection, Bettie! Jesus reminded us how quickly the lilies fade. As wonderful as they are, they last but a moment. Yet, He poured such glory into those lovely lilies. How much more has He poured into us! And yes, He holds all of it, all of us in His hands. May we rest in Him for the days He has given us. God bless you, dear Bettie! Your insights are beautiful, as always.

  3. This poem is an exquisite description of Springtime, Melissa.
I cannot take it all in with one reading. I will save it and reread it many times.
One sentence jumped out at me; “I don’t want to miss even one daffodil.”
That applies to everything that God wants me to see and do as long as He gives me breath. I pray for His wisdom and guidance each day so that I don’t “miss” His calling for me.
Thank you for this beautiful poem and your gift of expression as you walk with our Lord. You are a blessing and a gift to me.

    • Mary Anne, thank you for the kind words of encouragement. All glory to God! He is the Great Artist. His passion for life is breathtaking. When I see the glory of the flowers He made, I am overwhelmed at His passionate heart. That heart went to the cross and back to win us for heaven. What a beautiful God and Savior! Thank you for taking the time to share your insights. You are a blessing and a gift to me! What a wonderful witness you are for Jesus!

I love what you said here:

      • Ruth, thank you for stopping by to share your comments and insights. God’s creation always lifts my vision toward something more… the One who created all this! Spring is one of my favorite seasons because the blossoms and blooms truly shout the glory of God. It’s hard to imagine pouring so much heart into the flowers which are here today and gone tomorrow. But the God of all our tomorrows does just that! It makes me wonder at His deep love for us. God bless you!

    • Amen, Karen! May God open our spiritual eyes and enable us to peer through this passing world to His eternal glory awaiting us! We have the smallest glimpses of heaven here, but even a glimpse is glorious! God bless you!
